There’s something really special about growing something in your garden and realizing just how powerful it truly is.
Right now, I’m in the process of making oregano oil from scratch — something we use in our home for so many different purposes.
Oregano might seem like a simple kitchen herb, but once you start using it intentionally, you realize it’s so much more than that.
🌿 Why Oregano Is So Powerful
Oregano is known for its strong natural properties that support the body in many ways.
It has been traditionally used for:
antiviral support
antifungal support
antimicrobial support
reducing inflammation
It’s one of the most potent herbs you can grow and use at home.
🤍 How We Use Oregano in Our Home
Oregano oil has become something we keep on hand regularly.
🌬 Respiratory Support
We use it during times of sickness to help support:
bronchitis
asthma
colds and flu
🌿 Skin Support
Oregano oil can be used (properly diluted) for:
psoriasis
eczema
rosacea
fungal skin concerns like candidiasis
💪 Muscle & Joint Support (Personal to Me)
This one is especially meaningful for me.
Oregano oil can help support:
muscle pain
inflammation
arthritis
As someone who deals with rheumatoid arthritis, I’m always looking for natural ways to support my body — and this is one of the things I’ve been incorporating more intentionally.
🦟 Natural Insect Repellent
You can make a simple spray using oregano oil:
Mix:
25 drops oregano oil
25 drops lemon, lavender, citronella, or peppermint oil
distilled water in a spray bottle
Use it:
on the body (lightly and diluted)
around your home
in the garden to help repel insects
🌸 Menstrual Support
Oregano has been traditionally used to:
stimulate blood flow
support the pelvic region
help ease menstrual discomfort
🐓 Animal Health
Oregano is also used in natural animal care.
It can help:
support chickens as a natural antibiotic
relieve dogs of intestinal worms
support skin conditions and parasites
ease joint discomfort in animals
🧴 How I’m Making Oregano Oil at Home
Making oregano oil is actually very simple.
What You Need:
fresh oregano (or dried)
carrier oil (olive oil works great)
clean glass jar
saucepan
Instructions:
Wash and fully dry your oregano.
Lightly crush the leaves to release the natural oils.
Place oregano in a clean glass jar.
Cover completely with carrier oil.
Place the jar in a warm water bath (not boiling) for about 10–15 minutes to help start the infusion.
Seal the jar and let it sit in a warm place for 2–4 weeks.
Shake gently every few days.
Strain and store in a clean glass bottle.
🌱 From My Garden to Yours
One of the things I love most about this process is knowing exactly where it started.
From growing oregano in the garden…to turning it into something we use in our home…
It’s simple, intentional, and empowering.
🌿 For My Local Community
If you’re local and interested in making your own oregano oil, I’ll have fresh oregano available from my garden (while supplies last!)
Sometimes all it takes is having the right starting point.
🤍 Final Thoughts
Natural living doesn’t have to be complicated or overwhelming.
Sometimes it looks like:
growing one herb
learning how to use it
and slowly incorporating it into your home
Oregano is one of those herbs that reminds me just how powerful simple things can be.
With love,
Emily
