Back in January, I started calendula from seed — not knowing just how much I would come to appreciate this simple, cheerful flower.

Now, seeing it grow in the garden feels like more than just something pretty. It’s become something purposeful.

Calendula is one of those plants that has been used for generations, and once you start using it, you understand why.

🌸 What Makes Calendula So Special

Calendula is known for its incredible skin-supporting properties. It’s gentle, effective, and safe for the whole family.

It’s commonly used to:

  • soothe irritated skin

  • support healing

  • reduce inflammation

  • calm dryness and sensitivity

It’s one of the most versatile and dependable plants you can grow.

🌿 How We Use Calendula in Our Home

Once the flowers are ready, I dry them and infuse them into oil — slowly, intentionally.

That oil becomes something we reach for almost daily.

We use calendula-infused oil (and products made from it) for:

  • cuts and scrapes

  • eczema and dry skin

  • minor burns

  • chapped lips

  • cracked heels

  • rashes

It’s one of those simple, natural staples that replaces so many things.

🧴 A Staple in Our Home: All Purpose Salve

Calendula oil is actually one of the key ingredients in my All Purpose Salve at Cooper’s Cabin.

This is a product I originally made just for our family — something clean, simple, and effective that we could trust on everything from dry skin to everyday skin irritations.

Over time, it became one of the most reached-for items in our home.

And now, it’s something I get to share with you.

🌼 From Garden to Product

There’s something really special about knowing exactly where your ingredients come from.

From starting calendula as tiny seeds…to growing it in the garden…to infusing it into oil…to creating something useful for my family…

It’s a full-circle moment every time.

🤍 Why I Love This So Much

I’m learning more and more that natural living doesn’t have to be complicated.

Sometimes it looks like:

  • growing a single flower

  • using what you have

  • choosing simple, time-tested ingredients

Calendula is a reminder of that.

If you’ve ever thought about growing something that actually supports your home and your health — this is a beautiful place to start.

With love,

Emily
